Continued coverage for transitioning employees

A healthy workforce is vital to building the future of your business, whether you offer group coverage or direct your employees to the individual market. As your trusted partner, we’re committed to making sure you have the information you need to help your employees make an easy transition — and maintain the high-quality care they’ve come to expect from Kaiser Permanente.

Your employees can purchase a broad range of Kaiser Permanente individual and family plans, either directly from us or through the state’s health insurance marketplace, Covered California. They can also temporarily remain on their current plans through COBRA. The American Rescue Plan Act may provide your employees with different options to keep their coverage and to pay for it.

Help your employees transition to new coverage

If your employees are experiencing a change in Kaiser Permanente group coverage, including due to workforce reduction, use this checklist to help guide your communications. The checklist includes links to materials with resources and tools for transitioning to new coverage:

  • kp.org/exploreoptions for personalized coverage recommendations
  • 1-800-270-4095 (TTY 711) for a one-on-one consultation or to ask about financial assistance
  • Webinars for answers to coverage questions. Check the schedule at kp.org/coveragewebinar for dates and times. Each webinar includes a short, recorded presentation followed by a live chat with an advisor.

Employees will also receive detailed information about their plan options for continued coverage in the mail. For more information, please contact your broker or account manager.

After your employees have transitioned to new coverage

The Transitioning Member Hub has been developed for your employees transitioning between lines of business and plan types.  This support is provided via a one-stop digital self-service hub behind sign-on at kp.org. Upon entry to the Transitions Hub, employees will be able to see what’s staying the same and what’s different about their new plans.

Phased support for transitioning employees:

The full scope for Phase I is included in the table below.

The Transitions Hub will improve the employee experience by:

  • Supporting transitioning employees in better understanding their new plan
  • Understanding the financial perspective of their new plan
  • Providing self-service guidance to employees around what’s new/what’s staying the same and links to additional personalized information

Employees will be able to view the Transitions Hub from two days after they are enrolled in their new plan through their first 6 months of coverage on that plan.

*The Transitions Hub is only available to transitioning employees post sign-on
